A Step inside the Intern life at Sight & Sound Productions
It all started around mid-July. While currently being an Advertising major at the University of North Florida I went to a job fair that was being held in the student union building where certain companies were hosting who they were, and looking for potential interns. There I met Steve Levy, the marketing and media specialist for Sight & Sound Productions. Sight & Sound Productions by far had the best booth set up, and was easily recognizable as a good, quality company to familiarize myself with. A couple of interviews later down the road and I had received the position for the internship at Sight & Sound Productions.
Remembering the first day on the job, I was nervous and excited at the same time when arriving to Sight & Sound. Steve welcomed me into the company by taking me around the site, and introducing me to the many people that I have grown to appreciate and enjoy. The thing that first struck me when walking around and observing was the warehouse, it was huge! Event Productions was an industry that enticed me, but when I saw all the equipment/tools that Sight & Sound had, I was amazed. They had it all, from casino themes, tropical themes, holiday inspired themes, pirate themes, and some serious event lighting displays as well. Believe me when I say that whatever event you choose to have, Sight & Sound Productions will have what you need, no question.
As far as what my internship entails, there is a plethora of tasks that get assigned to me. Using a certain CMS, I obtain the names, companies, emails, and addresses of clients that Sight & Sound put on productions or rentals for. Then I send them surveys asking them how the production went and if all their needs were met. I also go through event photos tagging them for SEO purposes and also for purposes of finding it easily when you need to. From there I pick out photos and post them to the portfolio on the Sight & Sound website, or Mugwumps. Steve has also let me write some copy as well for a couple of things that we have going on for the future as well.
Steve has been exceptional as far as giving me the tools I need to be successful in the future. He has helped me get familiar with a copious amount of programs that are a must for this type of profession. These are to name a few: Umbraco, Intellivent, Slideshow Pro, Microsoft Outlook, Wordpress, Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, and other Social Media platforms.
It has been thus far an amazing internship here at Sight & Sound Productions. I have been learning things they don’t teach you in school, getting a hands-on experience, and having fun while doing it. What more could you ask for? It’s no wonder to me now why this company in this day and age has been around for 25 years, it’s the people inside the swooshed-S doors that make it happen.
